Judiciary cannot interfere with Parliament's authority: Attaullah Tarar
Pakistan
The bill would become law 10 days after its passing from Parliament
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Special Assistant to Prime Minister, Attaullah Tarar on Tuesday announced that only the Parliament had the authority to amend the constitution of Pakistan and that the judiciary should not intervene in this process.
Speaking to the media, Mr. Tarar emphasized that the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) wanted to ensure the supremacy of justice in the country, and that the Supreme Court (practice and procedure) bill 2023 was necessary for this purpose.
Mr. Tarar urged that justice must be done and seen being done, and that the Parliament was supreme, with the public being the source of power.
He also stated that the bill would become law 10 days after its passing from Parliament, with or without the president's signature.
The PMLN leader stressed that the judiciary could not interfere in Parliament's authority and legislation, adding that matters would proceed as per the finance bill.
He further questioned the fairness of the process of forming benches and hearing cases, and said that the bill was a long-standing demand to regulate the composition of benches.
Mr. Tarar also criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), saying that their signatures, leader, and cause were fake.
Regarding elections, Mr. Tarar said that the interim government was necessary to conduct elections as per the constitution, and that simultaneous elections across Pakistan on a single day were necessary to ensure transparency.
He affirmed that the federal government would complete its tenure, and elections would be held simultaneously all across Pakistan.
